Counting your marbles

I caught up with a friend and ex-colleague last week who told me a story about a senior executive he works with who carries three marbles in his right pocket everyday.

This person leads a huge business; multiple business lines across multiple geographies and thousands of people.

Throughout his working day, when he notices something he's grateful for, he takes a marble from his right pocket and switches it to his left pocket.

At the end of the day, he takes the one/two/three marbles that he's switched pockets and remembers what he was grateful for that day.

I loved hearing that story.

Most of us have something we can be grateful for everyday. Having a gratitude practice as part of your life and work is good for your mental and emotional health, for cultivating feelings of calm, peace and joy, builds resilience and strengthens your relationships (and doesn't cost a thing!).

How many marbles can you count today?
