Breaking the routine

For many of us, we're stepping into a four day weekend for the Easter holidays.

Which means your Friday and Monday are likely to be, and feel, different to your normal routine.

Perhaps it's a chance to reflect on your 'normal' routine?

There's many benefits to routine - it creates safety, structure, stability, consistency, a rhythm for your life, it's comfortable and comforting, it can create practice and with practice you can see progress.

Routine also has it's drawbacks - it can be unstimulating, unexciting, restricting and can stifle creativity and new ways of thinking through comfort and complacency. Unchallenged, your practice progress can plateau, and you can walk through life on autopilot, doing what you've always done.

I've learned that both are important. Rhythm and routine are like the solid river banks to the flowing river of creativity, excitement, discovery and adventure.

So this weekend, and onwards, create or maintain your routine around the things that nourish and support you, so that you can allow your creativity, fun and discovery to flow freely. The same principle goes for organisations too.
